I want to mod the Infiniti. Starting with this

Kinja'd!!!

Black halo headlamps and I35 grille. Following that, I'd like to get some bigger wheels (17s, 18s at most), a spoiler off the touring I30, and other such basic appearance stuff. The headlamp job would be fairly simple. I'd need the projectors ($165) the conversion kit ($30), and the bulbs ($20), so the headlight job would cost a tad over $215. That would be the first appearance mod. Eventually i may do performance as well, but the car is quick as it is.

Never had the desire to mod a car before, but something about this one, it's begging me to do it!

That would turn it from a completely respectable car, to a ricer.

Halo's alone dont make a car a ricer. It takes a hell of a lot more than that.

Don't do the halo rings. Prior owner did it on my viper. I hate them they look terrible. Don't do it. Put the money into adjustable coilovers or something that actually matters.

Halos really do factor in the rice.

Are you on the 5th Gen group on Facebook? All kinds of guys doing these builds over there right now.

I agree with jkm. It's gonna make you look like a ricer, you'll have far more attention from the police, and none of the advantages of driving a modded car. I say stick with stock. My friend bought a 528i with blacked out rear lights and he got pulled over on a quite regular basis. That was the only mod.

While I would not put halos on it myself I think you should do it if that's what you really want. It's your car mate, so do whatever you like.

Your car your rules.

They work better on a dark car then that...

I say leave it...that car has something like 250K miles on it right? no point in throwing money at it when it probably going to kick the can sometime soon. Wait until you have something that it would actually be worth it.

Personally not a fan but if you like them then do it. It's your car. You're modding it to fit your tastes. If you don't like them you can always switch back. You'll be out some cash but it's not the end of the world.

This kind of attitude is why we're too lenient on ricers.

The only problem is most of these "mods" aren't even DOT tested.

But if they don't make the car dangerous does that really matter?

It does because untested headlights can have the ability to shine into oncoming traffic, or be a lot worse than useless.

what brands are you going with as far as projectors, lens, bulbs, etc? Are you going HID or halogen? The cheap Chinese ones a lot find on eBay are junk and prone to failure. If the bulbs are no good the light output will suck and won't last long. Same goes for your wiring harness and ballast (probably the second most importnant part). A good set of Philips HID bulbs can't cost upwards of $100.

when I did my retrofit I bought a pair of replacement headlights to use as my donor so my car had headlights to use in the mean time (the old ones also go back in for inspection time). I went through theretrofitsource and used this set since its the easiest to install and lesser expensive.

Ha. Rather than reply to everyone the same answer, I'll reply to myself. If it doesn't look good, I guess I was kind of blinded by that. You all made excellent points and I don't want it to look riced. Just thought about adding unique touches, but I don't want to take away from its natural charm. Thanks for keeping me grounded to the ground!
